Staged Readings have been part of our programming for many seasons now.
It enables actors to sit at at a table and fully perform in scripts we are eager to explore. Not a concert reading, but a fully realized performance,
minus scenery and staging.   If you haven't been to one,
you owe it to yourselves to give it a try.

Staged Readings
George Bernard Shaw’s CANDIDA, written in 1895, is a charming comedy of a classic love triangle. Shaw was prompted by his admiration and devotion to Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, and with his uncanny wit and political philosophizing, created his provocative masterpiece about a woman caught between loyalty to her clergyman husband and the passion of an ardent poet suitor. Shaw portrays a strong young woman who shows both men the truth about themselves, and something about the deeper meanings of love.  Featured in the cast are Abby Hadden, Richard Epstein, Jordan Mitchell-Love, Kirk Winchester, Michelle Page, and Nick Bombicino.

Mark St. Germain’s CAMPING WITH HENRY AND TOM was inspired by an actual camping trip taken in 1921, when President Harding was invited to join Thomas Edison and Henry Ford on their annual camping trip in Maryland.   Although there are no details of that trip, St. Germain develops his witty comedy around the quirky personalities of his characters and their philosophies concerning the political climate of their time. Just about when our evening with them is over, we come to appreciate how closely their times reverberate with our own.  Witty, clever, and filled with the excitement of spending some delightful moments with these “historic” and often hysterical characters, the cast includes Jonnie Mack, Bill Pearre, Kirk Winchester -- with Fred Lee as a Secret Service agent out to find the missing President.

Christopher Trumbo’s TRUMBO: RED, WHITE AND BLACKLISTED recounts the life and times of his father, the legendary Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.  Based upon father and son’s correspondence, TRUMBO reveals the times of excessive national security, and the experience of one of the infamous Hollywood Ten who was blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947, during their investigation into the Communist infiltration of Hollywood, and sent to prison.  An extremely popular success in New York, this uniquely conceived play went on to a variety of national tours with various star performers popping into and out of the run, including Paul Newman and Brian Dennehy.  Bob Gruen and Jonnie Mack are featured in this cast
